In response to Typhoon Krathon, Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an convened a typhoon preparedness meeting, focusing on the stabilization of vegetable prices amidst rising costs due to the storm. The typhoon has led to an increase in the prices of vegetables, with leafy greens seeing a notable rise to a four-year peak. Chiang highlighted that the cost for vegetables such as bok choy, Chinese cabbage, and water spinach has surged past NT$100 per kilogram, marking a significant uptick from the average price of NT$50.74 to NT$56.7. To address this, the Taipei city government will monitor vegetable supplies and enforce price stabilization strategies.
Chiang tasked the Department of Economic Development with releasing stored leafy greens and bolstering supply via supermarkets and convenience stores to mitigate further price increases. Additionally, with the National Day celebration approaching, the Taipei Dome is undergoing leak repairs to ensure readiness by Oct. 4, as mandated by the city. Regarding typhoon safety measures, Chiang mentioned that the Department of Civil Affairs would oversee the removal of street flags on major roads if a land warning is declared, prioritizing public safety.
