This year, melon crops in Ukraine have proven to be less profitable due to overproduction and unfavourable weather conditions.
The situation with watermelons, in particular, has been challenging: farmers who cultivated early varieties using irrigation were able to make a small profit, but after the early harvest, they were left with smaller fruits. These had to be sold at nearly giveaway prices, with rates dropping as low as 0.05 EUR per kilogram, significantly undercutting the market.
The yield per hectare was around 15–20 tons, but most fruits weighed between 3 and 7 kilograms, which also affected profitability.
The situation with melons at the "SoyuzAgroConsulting" farm in the Dnipropetrovsk region was similarly difficult. Although part of the harvest was collected, a significant portion of the melons were damaged from sunburn due to extreme heat.
However, overall, this year has been quite difficult for melon crops, and farmers have struggled to achieve sufficient profits.
