In the final stretch of its 50th anniversary year, Planasa, a world leader in the agri-food sector specializing in obtaining new berry varieties, will participate in the 16th edition of Fruit Attraction, an event it's been attending for over a decade.
IIn this very special context, Planasa highlights the success of its strawberry variety RedSayra, which has doubled its presence in self-produced nurseries this season and will considerably increase the number of plants in its own nurseries. RedSayra is expected to account for more than 15% of the total varieties planted in Spain this season, which is especially noteworthy considering that this is the variety's third commercial year. This success is mainly due to its rusticity and precocity; two of the sector's most demanded characteristics in recent campaigns. In addition, according to IFAPA's latest annual report, this variety requires 9% less water than other varieties, making it the most efficient option in terms of water and embodying the company's commitment to sustainability.
In the raspberry segment, Planasa is presenting Pink Hudson, a variety that has aroused the interest of the main European retailers because of its excellent double harvest results and great agronomic and organoleptic qualities. However, the company continues to bet on the Adelita raspberry, a variety launched on the market in 2012 but that continues to show its leadership in the winter harvest.
Blue Maldiva, Blue Madeira, and Blue Manila are still the most outstanding blueberry varieties in Planasa's portfolio, not only in Spain, but also in countries such as Morocco, Portugal, China, Mexico, Peru, and South Africa, where Planasa South Africa subsidiary was opened two years ago. This global presence means that Planasa's blueberries are available all year round in the main markets.
In addition, the R&D team continues to work on advanced blueberry selections, looking for traits related to excellent fruit quality and high yields, but also to solve agronomic problems such as thorns.
Avocado is the star product of this year's Fruit Attraction and Planasa continues to make progress in its program to develop a new avocado variety that focuses on quality, productivity, resistance to salts and high temperatures, key factors to face the current climatic and productive challenges. At the same time, it is already producing the Hass variety through its nurseries in Spain and Morocco.
The company will welcome its visitors in Hall 9, Stand 9F02.
