Godefroy Voisin, Magellan import

"The cooler temperatures have benefited the Orri mandarin"

Godefroy Voisin, sales director of Magellan Import, which recently obtained the GlobalGAP certification, provides an update on the Orri mandarin campaigns from South Africa.

Magellan Import, importer of out-of-season fruit, offers a full range of pomelos, oranges, lemons, clementines, limes, avocados, mangoes, bananas, plums, grapes...

A dynamic market for Orri mandarins
The season of Orri mandarins from South Africa began in August. Production levels are "lower than last year. It is an off year, as the Orri mandarins alternate between years of good production and years of lower yields. The merchandise, however, is of good quality." There were a few supply problems at the start of the campaign, "with strong winds in the ports hampering container loading at times." As far as marketing is concerned, the Orri mandarin benefited this year from the rather un-summer like weather. "The cold weather, which penalized the sector in general, and led to an early end to the stone fruit season in Europe, benefited mandarin sales. The market is dynamic and the start of the school year has also given a strong boost to consumption, since mandarins are easy to carry around in school bags."

Magellan Import certified GlobalGAP
Since the start of the new school year, Magellan Import has been certified GlobalGAP. This certification ensures that the company meets requirements in terms of quality, food safety and good environmental practices. "The certification is a sort of prerequisite today," explains Godefroy Voisin. "Even though most of the products we import are already GlobalGAP and the processes we have put in place already provide these guarantees today, the certification gives us official recognition and greater visibility. From now on, we can guarantee to our clients good agricultural practices, traceability, analysis and control of contamination risks, as well as health safety."
