Russian Railways (RZD) has announced the extension of a 50% discount on the transportation of fruit and vegetable products from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan for the year 2025. This initiative aims to support the export of fruits and vegetables to Russia, which remains the primary market for Uzbek goods.
The discount applies to import transportation conducted using refrigerated rolling stock owned by the Uzbek and Tajik railways. It was initially introduced on January 1, 2021, and has been extended annually since then.
According to the Statistics Agency, from January to August 2024, Uzbekistan exported 1.35 million tons of fruit and vegetable products worth $922.8 million, reflecting a 9% increase compared to the same period last year. Russia continues to be the main destination for these exports, accounting for up to 44% of the total value. Other importing countries include Pakistan (15.2%), Kazakhstan (14.6%), Afghanistan (6.6%), and Kyrgyzstan (4.3%).
