Ferhat Akgündüz and Guyon Gelaudeman of customs broker Declarants:

"We combine the efficiency of automation with personal contact"

An innovative player with an eye for personal contact. That, according to Ferhat Akgündüz and Guyon Gelaudemans, is how Declarants, a new generation customs agent, is best described. They started the company in 2022 and have already welcomed many customers thanks to their experience and network in the AGF sector. Time for a brief introduction in De Lier, where Declarants has offices. ''A strategically chosen location'', Ferhat kicks off. ''The proximity of the port of Rotterdam and important arterial roads make De Lier an ideal location for us. In addition, we have the logistical advantages here that we need to provide our customers with customized services."

A total solution for import, export, transport, and customs formalities
Exactly how Declarants does that quickly becomes clear. ''Declarants is the starting point and end point in terms of the import and export of goods, transport (by road or via air or sea freight) including proper customs documentation,'' Ferhat continues. We offer our customers a worry-free total solution, with a single point of contact to meet all their needs. In doing so, we aim to make processes as simple and transparent as possible, so that our customers can concentrate on their core business."

''By using automation, we can speed up these processes and minimize errors,'' Guyon adds. ''We believe that this automation not only brings efficiency but also increases customer satisfaction. It allows us to proactively provide customers with the right information, respond quickly to queries, and react even faster to unforeseen circumstances. The latter in particular is essential in logistics processes, for instance around fresh products.''

So while the automation of processes helps Declarants to serve customers optimally, Ferhat and Guyon are convinced that it is precisely the human factor within the company that makes the difference. "What makes Declarants special is that we combine the efficiency of automation with personal contact," Ferhat explains. ''We want our customers to feel heard and feel that their issues are given the right attention and priority.''

''We do this daily, of course, but we also participate, for example, in annual trade fairs such as the Fruit Logistica in Berlin and Fruit Attraction in Madrid. The interaction with existing and potential customers at these fairs is very valuable for us. Not only does it enable us to maintain our international relationships, it also helps us improve our services and keep abreast of the latest trends and developments,'' Guyon concludes.

Continuously improving that service is high on the agenda at Declarants anyway. ''Of course, we have ambitious plans for the future,'' Guyon continues. ''One of the most exciting developments for us is the use of artificial intelligence to recognize patterns and make predictions, allowing us to act proactively. However, whatever tools we deploy, it is important that we remain mindful that our services must be focused on being able to serve our relations in the best possible way. With a clear vision, a focus on personal customer contact, and the future integration of AI technologies, we are convinced we have a bright future ahead of us.''
