In place of Just Walk Out, which typically requires ceiling-mounted cameras, shelf sensors and gated entry points, Amazon Fresh stores and Whole Foods supermarkets will feature Dash Carts. The carts track and tally up items as shoppers place them in bags, enabling people to skip the checkout line. Amazon continues to use Just Walk Out in its grab-and-go marts and UK Fresh stores.

UK: More than 70 retailers urge Reeves to make 20% cut to business rates
More than 70 retailers, including Tesco, Marks & Spencer and Ikea, are lobbying the chancellor, Rachel Reeves, for a 20% cut to business rates, warning that the property tax could force tens of thousands of shops to shut. In a letter to Reeves coordinated by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), executives are pushing the Treasury to introduce a "retail rates corrector" on the levy, which is a property-based tax charged by local councils and imposed on businesses including retailers, pubs, factories and company offices.

7-Eleven cancels plan to launch UK stores
Global convenience giant 7-Eleven has once again backtracked on its efforts to launch stores in the UK market, according to sources. Better Retailing has discovered the Japanese-owned company, which runs more than 80,000 convenience stores in 19 countries, held separate senior-level talks with groups including Bestway and Morrisons in the past 12 months. However, it is thought the discussions did not progress further, with 7-Eleven's parent company, Seven & I, allegedly deciding the UK convenience market is already "saturated", meaning it would struggle to pick up the sites and market share required to make a UK launch viable.

France: Zouari family set to take full ownership of Picard Surgelés
French frozen food retailer Picard Surgelés is set to be completely acquired by the Zouari family, who currently hold a 49% stake in the business.
