The province of Ninh Thuận, known for its mountainous terrain, is recognized for its capacity to produce and export high-quality agricultural products to Korea. Trinh Minh Hoàng, the deputy chairman of the People's Committee, highlighted the province's strategic location which facilitates connections via rail, road, airline, and sea routes to both domestic and international economic zones. The unique climate of Ninh Thuận, characterized by its weather, soil, sunshine, and wind, supports the cultivation of specialty products such as grapes, apples, garlic, aloe vera, and meats like lamb and goat, distinguishing them from other regions.
Efforts have been made to develop agriculture in Ninh Thuận, with the establishment of 36 large farms covering over 5,000ha, dedicated to crops like rice, grapes, and shallots. Additionally, 35 farming area codes have been issued to enhance product traceability. The adoption of modern technologies and adherence to global best practices are evident in many farms, with products being processed into high-value goods including dried fruits, wine, and jam. The province boasts about 182 products recognized under the One Commune One Product program, focusing on developing their value chains and exports, alongside promotion through tourism.
Brand building for specialty crops, such as Phan Rang garlic, is underway, with local businesses investing in modern processing technologies to create value chains. Ninh Thuận also leverages its strengths in renewable energy, hi-tech agriculture, processing, and the maritime economy to support its agricultural sector.
Korea, being Việt Nam's second-largest buyer of fruits and vegetables after China, presents a significant market for Ninh Thuận's exports. In the first half of the year, Korea's imports of fruits and vegetables from Việt Nam surged by 55 percent year-on-year, reaching over US$164 million. The existence of multiple free trade agreements between Việt Nam and Korea, such as the ASEAN – Korea FTA, Việt Nam – Korea FTA, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, offer favorable tariff conditions for Vietnamese goods, including those from Ninh Thuận.
A recent trade and export networking conference saw the participation of 54 businesses and cooperative groups from the south-central region and 38 Korean firms, aimed at fostering connections between the two sides. Korean companies expressed a positive outlook on Ninh Thuận's potential and policies. The event facilitated business to business, consumer, and government interactions, with 18 memorandums of understanding signed, focusing on agricultural produce like grapes, apples, and aloe vera.
