The Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced that active preparations are underway for the practical implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.
This new railway corridor will serve as a southern extension of the Eurasian continental bridge, providing access to the markets of Southeast Asia, Western Asia, and the Middle East.
According to the Ministry, the route will facilitate cargo transportation from China to Kyrgyzstan and onward to Central Asia and the Middle East, including Turkey and eventually the European Union. This project is expected to enhance competitiveness in international transit transport by reducing distances and delivery times.
On June 6, 2024, agreements were signed in Beijing between the governments of China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan to collaborate on the railway project.
The goal of this agreement is to initiate the practical implementation of the project and outline supportive measures for its realization. The railway will be constructed along a combined route: Kashgar—Torugart—Makmal—Jalal-Abad—Andijan.
To facilitate the project, authorized organizations in Kyrgyzstan will establish a joint project company following national legislation.
