The broccoli and cauliflower season started around two weeks ago in Murcia thanks to the Murcian company Campo de Lorca, better known by its brand Cricket; a specialist in the production and marketing of these products throughout the year.
The company is facing the season with optimistic prospects and good forecasts. "We are doubling our broccoli exports to countries such as Italy, as recent droughts have given the demand a push, both there and in other European countries, and at the moment, the broccoli from Murcia is pretty much the only one they can get," says Juan Marín, Cricket's Managing Director. "The first weeks of the season are always crucial, and getting off to a good start is always a good sign for the rest of the season," says Marín.
Cricket is also seeing a growth in the demand for its products. "Broccoli remains our flagship product in terms of volume, while cauliflower stands out as our differentiating element, with a considerable increase in the sales volume. Artichoke has also seen a notable growth in terms of both consumption and production, consolidating itself as another key product in our range."
Marín highlighted the importance of the recent edition of Fruit Attraction. It has been "the most important fair I can remember since it was first organized," he says. "We have been visited by many clients, both current and new, from different origins. There is a great interest on their part to ensure price stability, especially due to production problems in various regions. It has been a very busy fair and the best edition since we started taking part in it."
Antonia Piernas, Marketing and Communication Director, says that Cricket has presented the BioDiversity Grow program, a methodological initiative developed in partnership with Quality & Adviser, S.L. and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, which promotes sustainable agriculture. Cricket has also been nominated in the Fresh Produce category at Fruit Attraction's Innovation Hub, with its latest launch: Vegetable Crackers.
