Vietnam boosts fresh coconut exports to China amid quality and supply challenges

In a recent discussion with Youth Online, Mr. Nguyen Quang, an agricultural export market employee from a major enterprise based in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, highlighted the current surge in demand for fresh coconuts for export to China. According to Mr. Quang, locating sources that meet export standards has proven challenging. Despite these hurdles, the expectation for quality remains uncompromised to satisfy the robust market demand in China, subsequently elevating the price of fresh coconuts.

Several businesses have already secured contracts to export substantial quantities of coconuts to China in the coming months. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, General Director of Vina T&T Company, shared insights on the company's preparation for exporting durians and grapefruits, alongside coconuts, backed by secured growing area codes and a packaging facility. He also noted the appeal of Vietnamese fresh coconuts in various international markets due to their distinct taste and extended shelf life, facilitated by advanced preservation technology.

The inaugural shipments of fresh Vietnamese coconuts to China through northern land border gates marked a significant milestone, following China's market access approval last August. Positioned sixth in export value among fruits, behind durian, dragon fruit, banana, mango, and jackfruit, fresh coconuts contribute notably to Vietnam's agricultural export profile. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reports that Vietnam exports fresh coconuts to 15 countries, with a notable increase in shipments to China, enhancing the economic impact on the coconut-growing regions across the country.
