Lime prices in Europe are still not at the level that Natural Import had been hoping for, says Audrik Victoria, who works for the Portuguese produce exporter: "At Natural Import, we have been waiting for an increase of the lime prices in the European market. This is taking a little bit longer than we thought it would, but we are still confident the prices will bounce back to the normal range, between 9 and 10 euro per box. With the end of the flood of limes from Spain, Italy and also South America, we're now expecting a future scarcity of limes in the European market."
According to Victoria, the ginger situation is also rather volatile due to shortages. "The current situation for ginger isn't much brighter. The is a big scarcity of ginger and the prices are very high. We are planning for the coming weeks to become a supplier of baby ginger, which could be well received by the market, taking advantage of the prices of the coming weeks."
Natural Import is currently diversifying their offering with mangos from Brazil, as the market situation for that product is better, Victoria explains: "As for right now, instead of mainly focusing on the sale of limes and ginger, for which the market isn't the most favorable at the moment, we're also suppling the European market with Brazilian mangos. The Brazilian mango season has arrived in full force at this point. The flow of mangos is really strong, but the prices are stable, ranging between 6,00 or 7,00 euros per box. This situation will probably change soon and the entire situation may turn into a similar one to the current with limes. Nevertheless, there is always windows for any product that we feel comfortable to explore and make it the most of it, at least for now."
Victoria is excited to say that Natural Import can now ensure the quality that more demand clients require. "We praise quality service above anything else. Having this in consideration, we have now finally gained our chain of custody, to ensure a better and safer product to our customers. We now are capable of suppling to clients that demanded much higher standards," he concludes.
