From January to September 2024, Azerbaijan exported 439,161.25 tons of fruits and vegetables, which is 5.1% less than the same period in 2023, according to the State Statistics Committee. The value of exported goods also decreased by 2.4%, reaching $458,798,690. The share of these goods in the total export volume was 2.31%, which is higher than last year's figure (1.78%).
In the first nine months of 2024, Azerbaijan imported 256,644.99 tons of fruits and vegetables, amounting to $195,802,440. This represents a decrease in both volume and value compared to the same period in 2023, during which 462,586 tons were imported for $470,276,000. Thus, compared to the previous year, there was a significant reduction in the import of fruits and vegetables, both in terms of quantity (by 44.5%) and value (by 58.4%). The share of fruits and vegetables in the total import volume slightly increased to 1.34% from 1.21% a year earlier.
In the context of agricultural produce, Azerbaijan also recorded a decrease in the potato sector. As of October 1, 2024, the country harvested 892,300 tons of potatoes, which is 9.1% less than the same period in 2023. Potato imports also decreased by 5.4%, amounting to 83,557.2 tons, and their value fell by 9.1%, to $23,821,700.
However, Azerbaijan showed significant growth in persimmon exports. From January to September 2024, 37,692.83 tons of persimmons were exported, which is 64.8% more than the same period last year. The value of exported goods increased by 75.4%, reaching $29,146,930. The share of persimmons in the total export volume was 0.15%, significantly higher than the previous year's figure (0.06%).
