Residents of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, were taken aback when a truckload of mangoes, a fruit not typically available in October, was seized near the Indo-Nepal border in Nanpara. The operation, led by inspector-in-charge Pradeep Kumar Singh and his team from Nanpara Kotwali police station, took place on Sunday. The authorities intercepted a DCM truck by the Hada Bashari canal, discovering it was carrying mangoes suspected to be of Chinese origin, possibly transported through Nepal to bypass standard import procedures.
Inspector Pradeep Kumar Singh revealed the driver, identified as Siraj Ahmed from Nanpara, failed to provide the necessary documentation for the cargo. The incident has prompted involvement from the district magistrate, customs, and food departments, with Ahmed now in custody for further questioning about the mangoes' provenance and intended distribution points.
The occurrence of "October mangoes" has ignited discussions on the entry of Chinese mangoes into India via non-traditional pathways, at a time when mangoes are generally not in season. As the investigation proceeds, authorities anticipate initiating legal actions based on the findings. Currently, no formal charges have been filed as the inquiry is still active, according to the SHO.
