Ica to expand agricultural land and boost exports with Pampas Verdes project

In the near future, Ica is set to increase its agricultural land and solidify its status as a leading export hub in Peru, following the initiation of the Pampas Verdes project by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri). This development was highlighted by Rafael del Campo, the second vice president of the Association of Exporters (Adex), during the announcement of the 'XLIII Ica Tourism Week'. Del Campo emphasized Ica's dynamic growth in agro-exports, notably in grapes, asparagus, and blueberries, which has been instrumental in job creation and economic enhancement.

The event witnessed participation from various dignitaries, including Ica's mayor, Carlos Reyes Roque, and the regional director of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Gore Ica, Gustavo Huerta Escate. Del Campo further mentioned Adex's commitment to fostering sustainability and community respect through the promotion of tourism and trade. Notably, Ica emerged as the foremost exporting region in 2023, with a contribution of 7,322 million dollars, excluding Lima and Callao, accounting for 14.8% of the national total. The Green Pampas hydroelectric project in Ayacucho, necessitating an investment of 6,500 billion dollars, is set to benefit Ica alongside Ayacucho and Arequipa by providing electricity and water supply.

Data from the Adex Data Trade Intelligence System revealed that Ica maintained its leading exporter position with earnings of 5,498 million dollars between January and August. The agro-industry sector, especially grapes and avocados, demonstrated significant value addition. The region is preparing for the XLIII Tourism Week, featuring events that showcase Ica's cultural heritage and promote its tourist attractions, including the 'From Winery to Winery' walk and the "Hatun Tinkuy Ika – Huaca Tacaraca" event, among others.
