In the initial three quarters of 2024, Brazil witnessed a downturn in grape exports compared to the corresponding period in 2023. Data from AgroStat/Mapa, analyzed by Abrafrutas, revealed a 48.79% decline in export value alongside a 54.32% reduction in volume within the national viticulture sector. Specifically, exports plummeted from 20,000 tonnes, valued at R$53.5 million in 2023, to 9,000 tonnes, resulting in R$27.3 million in the first three quarters of 2024. The sector attributes this decline to excessive rainfall impacting fruit availability.
Despite the setback in grape exports, Brazil's overall fruit export value experienced an 8.51% increase from January to September 2024, compared to the same timeframe in 2023, even as the exported volume decreased by 3.34%. Mangoes and limes stood out, showcasing notable performance improvements. Mango exports, in particular, saw a value surge of 46.19%, despite a marginal volume decrease of 0.16%. This reflects an international price increase for mangoes, compensating for the slight volume dip due to adverse climatic conditions. Meanwhile, lime and lemon exports enjoyed a 14.52% value boost and a 9.16% volume increase, indicating strong international market acceptance and growing global demand, according to Abrafrutas.
