After facing a weather emergency in 2023 that significantly affected its production, Peru's blueberry industry has shown signs of recovery in the current 2024/2025 season. Despite a decrease in volume of almost 23% in the 2023/2024 season, the value of blueberries increased by 29%, thanks to good prices and the dominant position of the Peruvian blueberry on the international market. The production shortage was not limited to Peru alone, which made it possible to maintain product placement without major complications.
In the 2024/2025 season, until the end of September, there's been a 23% increase in volume and a 16% in value, reaching about 82,200 tons worth $661 million. This growth is accompanied by a varietal change towards premium productions such as Emerald or Ventura, which have replaced generic varieties and achieved better prices worldwide.
La Libertad leads shipments with a 48% share, followed by Lambayeque and Ica. A variation in regional shares is expected towards the end of the season, with a likely increase in exports from regions further south such as Ancash or Lima.
Fresh Fruit's projections indicate that this season's volume could be 27% higher than in the previous one. However, prices have experienced a significant drop, especially in October, when they fell by 42% compared to the same month last year. According to estimates, the season will close with a value between $ 1.7 billion and $ 1.9 billion.
The United States continues to be the main destination for Peruvian blueberries, with a 40% increase in volume compared to last season, although prices have decreased. Shipments to Europe grew by about 11% and prices were slightly higher than in the previous year, reflecting an upward trend in costs despite the increase in export volume.
