Eima, the exhibition dedicated to mechanisation and technology in agriculture that took place at the Bologna Exhibition Centre until 10 November, was packed fair right from the opening day with visitors from all over the world. In addition to traditional equipment, manufacturers are now focusing more on robotics and innovation.

The fair is attended not only by Italian technicians and farmers, but also by representatives from many countries, while the stands featured various foreign exhibitors (the Chinese presence should be noted), albeit not very many. Nonetheless, there is no shortage of collaborations as, for example, FederUnacoma has signed a protocol with Uganda, represented at EIMA by its minister of agriculture, with the aim of promoting a path of growth and development of the African country's agricultural and agrifood system.

"The fair was taken by storm on both the first and second day," says Enrico Turoni of TR Turoni, "a sign that the agricultural sector is still relevant. You can really find the latest technology at the fair. If I may make a remark, I noticed increased costs on all fronts".
Francesco Cucchiaro of Greentop, Nicola Costa of Comavit, Angelo Minella and Francesco Roselli of Dari Ecomeccanica also agreed on the considerable turnout.

The robotic weeder distributed by Arvatec and built by a Dutch company
Arvatec presented a fully autonomous robotic weeder capable of working between rows to remove weeds. It can cover 20 hectares with ease several times throughout the season also because, once purchased, the machine has no running costs.
DSM Italia showcased a piece of equipment for greenhouse ozone disinfection: a towed machine that is positioned outside the protected crops. Forìgo presented an electric self-propelled tool carrier that can mount up to three different accessories.

The Leonardo X4 robot
The Leonardo robot which, thanks to the data collected from the weather stations, activates autonomously and goes into the field even at night to treat (using UV lamps) orchards and vineyards is also very interesting.
The world of agricultural mechanisation is not in good health in general and, as some entrepreneurs said, accelerations are only seen in conjunction with contributions. The unfavourable trend in the agricultural and industrial sectors held back tractor sales on the international market during the first six months of 2024, with an overall drop of 12% compared to the same period in 2023. The drop is due to cyclical factors, not to a decline in the need for technology, driven by a steadily developing agriculture.
