Fresh herb demand starting to pick up

Demand is starting to strengthen for some varieties of fresh herbs with Thanksgiving ahead. "During the holidays, Rosemary, Thyme, and Sage are like gold for these next few weeks and we start planning for that during the summer. Demand for them is increasing right now," says Philipp Harlov, VP sales and marketing for Infinite Herbs.

As for supply, Harlov says it is in good shape. "The harvest looks really good–the plants look healthy," he says, adding that along with supply from U.S. regions such as Florida, the product is also growing in Colombia and Mexico. "We like to diversify our supply in case something happens with Mother Nature in one growing region and this way, we have other regions to pull herbs from."

Expanding fresh herb supply
While Infinite Herbs generally continues to expand its supply to meet the growing demand for fresh herbs, it's increased it even more this year. "We always grow a certain percentage over what we expect. We use that buffer for any issues that might come up that aren't foreseen but we also have a big cushion for supply for customers who need help," says Harlov.

As for pricing, it's similar to this time last year and pricing remains steady.
