Peruvian blueberries flourish in China following trade agreement

Following the implementation of the trade agreement between China and Peru, Peruvian agricultural exports to China have seen a remarkable increase, with blueberries becoming notably prevalent on Chinese dining tables during their November harvest season. Since the agreement's inception in 2010, Peru's agricultural exports to China have expanded 18-fold. Recently, a shipment containing 7,800 boxes of Peruvian blueberries arrived in Shanghai after approximately 50 days at sea. These fruits, upon arrival, are set to be distributed throughout China from local factories.

In Shanghai, the reception of Peruvian blueberries among consumers and retailers has been overwhelmingly positive. Shoppers have shared their frequent purchases, highlighting the fruit's popularity across various age groups. Retail representatives, including Zhang Lingli from RT-Mart, have noted the significant demand for Peruvian blueberries, with sales reaching up to 20,000 boxes daily during the peak season in November.

Luis Miguel Baanante Cerdena, representing Camposol, Peru's leading fruit and vegetable importer and exporter, has been instrumental in expanding the company's footprint in the Chinese market since his arrival in Shanghai in 2017. Camposol's exports to China encompass a variety of fruits, with blueberries leading the charge, alongside avocados, grapes, and mangoes.
