AgroFresh expands FreshCloud to improve produce quality and reduce waste

AgroFresh Solutions has announced collaborations with Rubens Technologies and Escavox, aimed at enhancing its FreshCloud digital platform. These partnerships are designed to integrate advanced analytics, monitoring tools, and data into FreshCloud, facilitating real-time decision-making across the produce supply chain. The objective is to extend produce freshness and minimize food waste from the farm to the shelf.

"With the addition of Rubens Technologies and Escavox solutions, the FreshCloud digital ecosystem is now informed by near real-time data at each crucial step in the produce supply chain: at the grower, in production, in storage, at retail distribution, and during transit," says Bradford Warner, AgroFresh Global Head of Digital and Data. These collaborations enable FreshCloud to offer a comprehensive monitoring system, aiding stakeholders in enhancing fruit quality and profitability.

FreshCloud Harvest integrates technology from Rubens Technologies, featuring a hand-held spectral scanner for assessing fruit quality indicators. This tool aids growers in determining the optimal harvest time and evaluating fruit quality through spectral sensing and proprietary algorithms. "This collaboration combines Rubens Technologies' innovation with AgroFresh's expertise in pre- and post-harvest solutions to deliver a unique value proposition, improving fruit quality, reducing waste, and offering greater profitability for all stakeholders," says Daniel Pelliccia, Founder and CEO of Rubens Technologies.

Additionally, Escavox offers an in-transit monitoring solution, now part of the FreshCloud Transit module. This integration enables stakeholders to receive actionable insights on produce quality and shipping conditions during transit. "Harvest quality, minus the impact of the journey, equals consumer quality. We take a unique approach with a focus on the food, not the assets that move it," says Luke Wood, Founder and CEO of Escavox.
