Colombia sees mixed produce price trends in October amid supply shifts

In October 2024, the Unit of Agricultural Rural Planning (UPRA) reported adjustments in Colombia's wholesale prices for fresh produce. Cucumbers, onions, and beets witnessed a decrease exceeding 20%, a reflection of augmented supply following favorable harvests across Cundinamarca, Boyacá, and Cauca. Similarly, root crops such as potatoes and yams saw price drops above 10%, attributed to increased yields from the Cundiboyacense plateau and Norte de Santander.

Conversely, certain grains and cereals like corn and beans experienced up to a 5% price increase, primarily due to adverse weather impacts and constrained market availability. Despite disruptions from mining and farming protests affecting supply chains, wholesale food prices maintained stability, aided by preceding weeks' price declines that balanced October's price variances. While prices for fresh fruits including papaya, mango, and pineapple decreased, lime and avocado prices moved upward.
