According to Andriy Maruschak, the commercial director of Van Dyk Technics, the state of the cabbage crop is particularly alarming.
"While the situation with carrots and onions is somewhat better, cabbage has suffered terribly due to the summer's extreme heat. Despite being watered, the cabbage couldn't withstand the high temperatures and didn't grow well. Now, the cabbage is still on the field, with little hope for a good harvest of cabbage and prices are likely to rise because of this".
However, Maruschak believes that the high prices for vegetables in Ukraine won't last forever. He points out that the current situation is affected by more than just the weather. The ongoing war in Ukraine has reduced the available workforce for agriculture and has also led to worldwide increases in prices for plant protection products and fertilizers.
Maruschak emphasizes the need to think about the future and how to address these challenges.
