The National Food Safety Authority's Information Centre disclosed in its latest report that its Department of Control of Packing Stations and Centres conducted 44 inspections, resulting in the issuance of 491 agricultural export permits between November 2 and 8. In parallel, the General Administration of Factories Control, in collaboration with the Industrial Development Authority, executed 32 supervisory inspections across various food factories nationwide.
Regarding exports, sweet potatoes led with a volume of 10,000 tons, followed by beans and onions at 6,000 tons and 5,000 tons respectively. The total vegetable exports amounted to 33,000 tons across 51 varieties. In the fruit sector, pomegranates topped the list with 10,000 tons, followed by mangoes and strawberries at 6,000 tons and 4,000 tons respectively. The primary importers of these Egyptian goods included Sudan, Libya, Russia, and Saudi Arabia among 167 countries.
The Strategic Commodities Department also undertook 13 inspection visits to wheat storage sites nationwide. Additionally, the General Administration for Registration and Licensing of Private Food processed 101 product registrations, 21 company registrations, 680 new product examinations, and issued 27 free sale certificates. To ensure food safety, the Complaints Management conducted 720 inspection missions across various governorates, while the Control of Commercial Chains registered 697 food establishments, with 358 meeting the required safety standards in the last week.
Further enhancing its oversight, the Warehouse Control Department carried out 20 monitoring missions, and the Management of Licenses and Control of Tourist Facilities conducted 79 visits for periodic surveillance and license inspections in key governorates. Mobile Food Units and the General Department of Slaughterhouses also played their part with 18 inspections each, focusing on food units and slaughterhouses respectively, the latter also making 63 visits to intestinal factories and issuing 25 export permissions to the EU.
This comprehensive approach by the NFSA, under the guidance of chairman Dr. Tareq el-Houby, underscores the authority's commitment to ensuring food safety and regulatory compliance across Egypt.
