Latin American bananas reach €157/kg in Germany, highlighting market variability

The latest data on wholesale banana prices from Latin America shows significant variation across key European markets. From January to September, the minimum wholesale price ranged from €53.20 to €96.20 per kilogram, while the maximum price fluctuated between €37.94 and €96.80. This broad range reflects diverse market dynamics and demand patterns across regions.

Belgium (BE) reported a consistent wholesale price, maintaining an average of €96.20 throughout the period. In contrast, Germany (DE) and the Netherlands (NL) showed more variability. Germany experienced an average price of €132.85, with a peak of €157.43, while the Netherlands averaged €107.40, reaching up to €125.75 during high-demand periods.

The data highlights the relatively stable pricing in Belgium compared to other European markets, suggesting a more predictable demand-supply balance. Meanwhile, the higher price volatility in Germany and the Netherlands could indicate fluctuating import costs or shifting consumer preferences in these regions.
