The production of oranges in Egypt is on a stable level, there might even be more volumes this season, says Gehan Elsherif, executive manager of G Fresh Export & Import "Egypt is one of the largest exporters of oranges globally, and its production has been increasing steadily due to improved agricultural practices and expanded cultivation areas. Over the past few years, orange production has generally been on the rise in recent years. The production volumes for the current season are likely to be stable or even slightly higher compared to previous years."
Thanks to the stable supply, Egyptian producers are able to transport more volumes in their main export markets, Elsherif explains. "The demand for Egyptian oranges remains strong, driven by both domestic consumption and export markets. As one of the world's major exporters, Egypt has been expanding its export markets, especially to key regions such as Europe, the Middle East, Russia and Asian territories."
The terrible weather conditions in Valencia could impact the supply of oranges, but Elsherif doesn't want to speculate and states things will become more clear once the season actually gets going: "Of course, we first want to send our condolences to the victims of this terrible floods happening in Spain. The situation is dire, and it should be no surprise that it is impacting the orange market, as Spain is a major orange producer. The floods have created a supply disruption that could influence the global market in several ways, but we'll have a more clear idea on the effects once the season has actually started. Right now, it would only be speculation."
"Oranges in Egypt typically thrive in the Mediterranean climate, with warm, dry summers and mild winters, which help produce high-quality fruit. There haven't been significant instances of severe weather like storms, frosts, or excessive heat waves in recent seasons, which can harm the fruit's growth or lead to crop losses. The relative stability in weather conditions has helped maintain consistent yields and fruit quality. We do however, expect an increase in prices soon," Elsherif concludes.
