The French tomato season is at a turning point: "Many producers are nearing the end of their season," notes an industry expert. Prices currently sit at around €1.80 per kilo for grape tomatoes, €1.50 per kilo for round tomatoes, and €1.80 per kilo for fleshy varieties. Although prices could be higher, the sufficient supply of French market stock prevents any significant price increases. Additionally, the quality disparity at this late stage of the season is causing notable price variations between different batches.

Prices are generally described as "fair," although they remain below those seen in neighboring markets: "At present, the French market does not have the highest tomato prices in Europe. In contrast, Dutch and Belgian markets, with their limited volumes, are seeing higher prices, around €2.20 per kilo for cluster tomatoes. Spanish grape tomatoes have yet to make their way to France, as domestic demand in Spain remains robust and export opportunities offer better returns. This situation leaves the French market with a balanced supply, not flooded with imported tomatoes."
Consumption patterns are also shifting: "Organized promotions are few and far between. While a handful of growers have started harvesting their first tomatoes from the new crop, volumes remain limited. We are clearly moving from summer and autumn consumption to winter habits, resulting in lower demand."
