Mitica's proposal for the large retail sector, but also suitable for Christmas baskets

Italian chestnuts and marrons in Christmas packaging

A new Christmas-themed packaging of premium products will be launched in the coming weeks by Mitica, an Italian company based in Emilia that specialises in marrons and chestnuts. "It is a way of creating a unique identity and enhancing a product that is characteristic of these autumn months," says Gionatan Elmi of Mitica.

"This is the first year that we are offering these mesh nets with Christmas images and colours," he continues, "and we believe they will be well received. The formats will be the classic 500 grams, 750 grams and 1 kg. We are already in contact with large Italian and foreign retailers, so the consumer will have easy access to the product. At the same time, these mesh nets will be a good addition to Christmas baskets, as a gift to complement the rest of the assortment."

In terms of market performance, Elmi highlights that sales are ongoing at a satisfactory pace, with prices and quantities both increasing. The weather has been more favourable than in 2023, when high autumn temperatures slowed down consumption.

The three main trademarks produced by Mitica are the Nella, Nando and Gino chestnuts. The Gino is a 'Florentine chestnut', which reflects the company's commitment to producing superior quality chestnuts that meet the expectations of its customers, who are increasingly focused on quality, nature and local produce.

"At our company, we prioritize quality as a core value. This begins with the careful cultivation of chestnuts in our orchards and extends through the meticulous selection process in our factory," says Elmi. To maintain this high standard of quality, Mitica first of all selects its suppliers and then, secondly, each batch is subject to a detailed scan in the warehouse from start to finish, from pre-cleaning to sterilisation, up to grading and packaging.

The company exports 40% of its product, with Germany, Austria and Switzerland among its main destinations. "This year," he concludes, "we have chestnuts and marrons available in all calibres, so we can meet the needs of both high-end and budget-conscious customers. Each batch is of the highest quality."
