As the northern hemisphere enters winter, Hainan Free Trade Port's southern regions, including Sanya City and Ledong Li Autonomous County, maintain a warm climate conducive to agriculture. These areas, known for their production of mangoes and honeydew melons under the "Hainan Fresh Produce" brand, are bustling with farmers harvesting these crops for global markets.
In Sanya, a key mango production area, the industry thrives from November to June, contributing significantly to the province's status as a leading mango producer. The Hainan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs reports annual revenues of around $820 million from mangoes alone. The success of Sanya mangoes is attributed to natural conditions, advanced breeding, and strict quality controls, ensuring a product that is visually appealing, sweet, and juicy. These mangoes, recognized internationally, are exported to more than ten countries, including Canada and the United States.
Adjacent to Sanya, Ledong is renowned for its honeydew melons, with the local climate and soil composition yielding fruit known for its sweet, creamy texture. The honeydew melon industry, peaking from October to May, plays a crucial role in the region's economy, generating $710 million annually. Ledong's focus on high-quality agricultural practices has helped maintain the melons' reputation and demand.
The "Hainan Fresh Produce" brand has been instrumental in promoting Sanya Mango and Ledong Honeydew Melon, enhancing the economic well-being of local farmers and symbolizing the region's agricultural success. This initiative reflects Hainan's commitment to agricultural innovation, quality, and the global sharing of its tropical fruits.
