Exports to other countries still lagging behind

A marked increase in consumer demand and in the purchase of PGI radicchio

The PGI Radicchio of Verona is now widely recognised. According to Cristiana Furiani of Geofur. The extensive promotional activity in recent years is paying off. Consumers can now distinguish between the PGI brand and the generic semi-long radicchio. If I were to use a soccer analogy, the PGI Radicchio of Verona currently has the advantage over semi-long 1-0."

Cristiana Furiani

The radicchio season is now in full swing, with Furiani providing a detailed analysis: "After an extremely hot summer, an autumn marked by heavy rainfall has led to significant crop losses. Consequently, yields are below average and prices are slightly higher. However, it should be noted that a company with the structure and planning processes in place, such as ours, is able to maintain its customer supply despite challenging circumstances."

Cristiana Furiani adds: "More care is needed in the field and in the plant; there is more waste, but the quality of the produce we provide to customers is high. This is also due to the fact that in the last few weeks temperatures have fallen to more seasonal levels, with a few light frosts, making the radicchio perfect in terms of colour and crunchiness."

"The Italian large-scale retail trade is experiencing a gradual increase in stock levels, with consumer demand meeting expectations. However, international sales have not yet reached the expected levels. I believe this is due to the presence of local stocks in countries such as Austria, Germany, France and Spain."

When asked to make a forecast for the coming months, Cristiana is unequivocal in her response: 'While we are subject to the weather, I, as an optimist, am confident that we will succeed. When you have a well-structured plan is in place and all potential variables have been considered, I believe you can achieve your desired outcome," she concludes.
