Bejo presents new white asparagus variety Genius for north-west European cultivation

"Previous trials have shown excellent yields and qualities"

On the first day of this year's expoSE in Karlsruhe, the breeding company Bejo Samen took the opportunity to officially launch its new white asparagus variety Genius. During the official opening at the Bejo Samen stand in Hall 1, Product Manager Gerhard Völkel described the medium-early variety as particularly suitable for north-west European cultivation.

"We have continuously developed our asparagus assortment in recent years and are particularly proud to present the latest addition to our portfolio," Völkel told the interested parties in attendance. The variety, previously known under the temporary name Bejo 3408, has been intensively tested over several years at various trial sites in the Netherlands, France and Germany, and the results have been particularly promising.

"The variety has excellent yields and qualities. It has a nice closed head structure and is also very frost and disease resistant," Völkel continued. With an average of one more stem per plant in the desired sorting, Genius F1 outperforms the current standard in terms of yield.
