OneThird presents avocado scanner at Tech for Retail, in partnership with Ida

"The lifespan of each product is essential in the algorithms we develop"

OneThird, the start-up dedicated to combating fresh produce waste, will be presenting its avocado scanner for the first time in France at the European retail show Tech for Retail, taking place on November 26th and 27th in Paris, Porte de Versailles. This is a first step on the French market for OneThird thanks to its recent partnership with start-up Ida, a specialist in supply optimization based on artificial intelligence. The avocado scanner is now compatible with the Ida ordering tool.

How does it work?
The device developed by OneThird uses infrared light to scan avocados and determine their level of ripeness, helping consumers and retailers to reduce food waste. Using advanced spectral analysis technology and sophisticated algorithms, OneThird's scanner indicates the fruit's shelf life in real time, a key factor for Ida. The shelf life of each product is essential in the algorithms we develop for most French retailers," explains Mateo Beacco, co-founder and CEO of Ida. "Being able to integrate the data generated by OneThird's technology directly into our tools is a revolution for a sector that has never been able to accurately study the perishability of products and adjust its orders accordingly. We are honoured to welcome them to our booth for the first demonstration of their technology in France."

What are the benefits?
For consumers, it provides precise information on the ripeness of avocados, facilitating choice at the time of purchase and improving customer experience. For retailers, it prevents customers from handling and damaging the fruit by groping for it, thus helping to extend the shelf life of products and reduce losses due to waste. Finally, for growers and wholesalers, OneThird offers another specialized non-destructive equipment that provides key parameters (dry matter, Brix) to prevent the destruction of goods during quality tests, and order rejections that generate significant financial losses every year.

OneThird will be exhibiting at Tech for Retail (booth V28).
