CR and CONCOR launch first rail shipment of bananas to JNPT

The South Central Railway (SCR), in partnership with the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), has initiated the first rail shipment of bananas destined for the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai. This inaugural consignment, facilitated by S.K. Exports, comprised 680 tonnes of the fruit. S.K. Exports, known for its role in fruit exportation over recent years, leverages a network encompassing approximately 20,000 farmers. This network not only aids in producing high-quality bananas but also in adopting the latest agricultural technologies and ensuring farmers receive fair compensation for their produce.

In collaboration with Indian Railways, CONCOR aims to provide a dependable and efficient mode of transport for bananas, catering to their strong market demand. SCR and CONCOR's efforts are instrumental in connecting Indian farmers with international markets, thereby securing favorable prices for their bananas. Furthermore, SCR officials noted that the railway is also engaged in transporting mangoes and other fruits from various regions within Andhra Pradesh. This venture into banana exports underscores the successful synergy between local agricultural stakeholders, SCR, CONCOR, and exporters, all contributing to the broader economic landscape of India.
