José Enrique Sanz, from IGP Cítricos Valencianos:

Valencia's orange campaign has started

The IGP Cítricos Valencianos quality seal is kicking off the Valencian orange season just before the start of December, the month with the highest volume of citrus sales in European markets. "We started this season without carrying out the traditional first-cut ceremony. We canceled it because of the disaster caused by the DANA. The season continues and we are fulfilling our commitments. The product will reach the markets on time and in good condition," stated José Enrique Sanz, the IGP Cítricos Valencianos director.

From now on and over the next few months, retailers and cooperatives will supply national and international markets with oranges bearing the IGP Cítricos Valencianos seal and the Naranja Valenciana brand in a very visible manner. "The IGP seal is gaining visibility and consumers are keeping it in mind at the time of purchase. They know the products with this seal have the characteristic flavor of the citrus fruits produced in the fields of the Valencian Community," Sanz stated.

The commitment of the chains in the national market
The commitment of large chains such as Consum, Eroski, Caprabo, and Alcampo is key. "They position our crops with the IGP quality seal on their shelves, making it easier for consumers to access our citrus fruits. They were the first chains to market our products this season because they started with the extra-early clementines certified by the IGP, specifically with the Oronules and Arrufatina varieties. Carrefour, Masymas, El Corte Inglés, Plusfresc, and Spar joined in the last few weeks marketing Clemenules and Navelina clementines. Others will soon follow, just as they did last season. What's more, we can already anticipate that a couple of national chains will be introducing our Naranja Valenciana consumer brand on their shelves, both in its girsac bag and boxed format," stated José Enrique Sanz.

The booming French market
IGP Cítricos Valencianos has noted the potential of the French market. "Traditionally, France has always been a good market. We plan to register several operators who will label their products with the IGP seal for French clients shortly. The increase in the French market's interest in our IGP Cítricos Valencianos seal is striking. Despite being a traditional market for us, several warehouses agree that there is interest from this source," Sanz added.
