The colder weather conditions in the last week have boosted consumption and the food service sector continues to ramp up in the lead-up to the festive period. There were increased orders this week and the price pressure has softened. There are reports that there has been good demand for chipping potatoes in the past two weeks. Irish stocks are now running tight and commanding a premium price.
Across Europe, the domestic market is reported to be buoyant, with buyers looking for the best quality. Price increases of £10 to £20p.t. have been quoted for best quality. Exporters report good demand, especially for the Canaries where demand is "better with some buyers than with others". Prices are holding at recent levels.
