Yesterday, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Northern California and prompted a brief tsunami warning along the U.S. West Coast. The earthquake struck in Humboldt County, about 130 miles south of the border with Oregon, but was felt as far south as San Francisco. No injuries have been reported.
Humboldt County is a rural community with timber, livestock, and aquaculture being the main agricultural industries. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts are responsible for a small share of the total agricultural value. In 2022, the estimated gross value of the county's agricultural industries amounted to $272,790,000 with the contribution of fruit, vegetable, and nut crops being less than two percent, according to a report from the Humboldt County Farm Bureau.
