The marketing of table potatoes was firmly in the hands of German suppliers. Deliveries from France and the Netherlands were only sporadic. The range was somewhat broader with French Regina. Business was generally quite quiet. According to the BLE, traders rarely had cause to modify their previous demands.
Lower Saxony:
Market development was consistent with the previous week, BVNON reported in its latest market report.
Rhineland-Palatinate:
Demand remains subdued on the potato market for the beginning of December, with a revival expected towards Christmas. Batches with quality defects are also coming out of the warehouses, putting marketing pressure on them and causing increased processing costs. Direct marketers report steady business and still little Christmas-related revival in demand. In many cases, the assortment of farm shops is expanded before the festive season, and potato sales then benefit from tree sales and seasonal poultry, for example.
NRW:
Demand for potatoes remains good. Overall, there are few changes on the table potato market. On the industrial potato market, the focus remains on the very heterogeneous qualities in all Western European growing countries, with a generally firm underlying mood.
Berlin/Brandenburg:
The current potato market is characterised by abundant supplies and restrained demand. "Demand is still quite manageable and we hope that sales will pick up a little towards Christmas," according to the Berlin Wholesale Market. Due to the wet conditions, the quality this year is not particularly convincing. 'As a result, many people are trying to get rid of their goods as quickly as possible so that they only have to store these poorer-quality batches for a short time. This in turn leads to corresponding price pressure on the market.'
Schleswig-Holstein:
There has been little change in potato prices here compared to the previous week. Although fresh produce has almost completely disappeared from supply, the lower end of the price range remains, as batches that have to be removed from storage for quality reasons keep coming onto the market. The supply, which is described as covering demand, is supplemented by the current clearance of interim and temporary storage facilities. Demand is still at a low level. It is hoped that the pre-Christmas period will provide a boost. If demand develops as hoped, possibly also due to promotional activities by food retailers, slightly firmer producer price trends are conceivable. Potato prices on the EEX continued their slight downward trend of recent weeks.
Saxony:
In Saxony, a slight price increase was forced compared to the previous week. This price increase was observed in all segments (floury, primarily waxy and waxy).
Hesse:
There were no price changes in the state of Hesse compared to the previous week.
