Measures to stabilize food prices and export the vegetable harvest were discussed In Kazakhstan

Under the chairmanship of Vice Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin, a meeting was held in the Government dedicated to measures for preserving the harvest and stabilizing prices for socially significant products.

Key attention was given to the construction and modernization of vegetable storage facilities, reports El.kz, citing the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to the data, the country operates 901 agricultural produce storage facilities, including 580 vegetable storages with a total capacity of 1.1 million tons, 257 potato storages (499,700 tons), and 67 fruit and vegetable storages (136,300 tons). In 2023, new storages with a capacity of 122,800 tons were introduced, and construction of facilities with a capacity of 115,100 tons continues in five regions.

This year, Kazakhstan harvested 2.9 million tons of potatoes, 1.1 million tons of onions, 498,000 tons of cabbage, and 474,000 tons of carrots, significantly exceeding domestic needs. Meanwhile, there is a demand for 150,000 tons of potatoes, 80,000 tons of onions, vegetables, and apples from the Russian Federation.

The Vice Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to work out the issue of exporting surplus harvest without affecting the reserves of stabilization funds.
