Tangerine imports to Russia in 2024 increased by 14.4% compared to last year's period, reaching 738,300 tons, as reported by TASS, citing the Rosselkhoznadzor. The supply growth has ensured the domestic market is well-stocked with these popular fruits for the New Year celebrations.
Turkey remains the largest traditional supplier. However, imports from Turkey over the past 10 months decreased by 20% compared to the same period last year, totalling 160,000 tons. To offset the reduced exports from Turkey, increased imports from China were planned.
In the first nine months of this year, Russia increased its purchases of tangerines from China by 2.4 times in volume, reaching 48,500 tons, according to RIA Novosti, referencing data from China's statistical service. In monetary terms, this amounted to $46.6 million. With this volume, Russia was fifth among the countries that imported citrus fruits from China.
In addition to China and Turkey, other major suppliers of tangerines to Russia include Georgia, Egypt, Iran, South Africa, Morocco, and Pakistan. Despite the increased supply from various sources, experts have differing opinions on tangerine prices in December.
