"We're satisfied with the response to our special Christmas packaging. It's appreciated both in Italy and abroad, in countries like Austria, Germany and Switzerland," says Gionatan Elmi of Mitica, a company specialising in chestnuts and marrons. In recent weeks, the company has launched Christmas-themed packaging featuring seasonal colours and graphics, and the response has been immediate.

"The quantities of chestnuts and marrons available at the moment are naturally decreasing," continues Elmi, "as the months with the highest sales are October and November, but we continue to supply both the large retail outlets and the specialised operators who prefer a medium to large product, such as 50 to 80 pieces/kg. Even abroad, the market seems to be picking up."
So far, prices have been satisfactory. "But we will have to wait until the end of the campaign to take stock: we were in production until April. We are also pleased with the growth in snacks, chestnuts, and steamed chestnuts, which we sell to large retailers."

This year, the first part of the harvest went very well, thanks to optimal weather conditions that deteriorated at the end of October due to heavy rain. 'It is very important to select and process the product carefully,' Elmi concludes, 'in order to guarantee consistent quality for the consumer.
