In a press release published last week, the French government announced that fruit and vegetable growers on Reunion Island would be receiving €1.17 million [1.23 million USD] in aid. This "exceptional compensation" scheme comes in the wake of "inflation in input costs in 2023, caused by the consequences of Russia's aggression against Ukraine." The government has examined and validated 601 claims submitted by farmers.
In total, the French government will provide direct aid worth €300 million [315.3 million USD] to Reunion farmers in 2024, across all sectors and all schemes, including €84 million [88.3 million USD] in direct aid.
