Over the last two years, Brazil has seen a marked increase in pistachio imports, climbing from 350 tons to over 1,000 tons in 2024, with the year still in progress. This uptick underscores the growing presence of pistachios across a variety of food products, establishing them as integral to both sweet and savory culinary creations, as well as a fixture in restaurant and fast-food chain offerings.
The integration of pistachios into an array of dishes and desserts, including panettones, cakes, croissants, and ice creams, has broadened consumer options with innovative flavors. Despite their nutritional acclaim, pistachios are not yet cultivated in Brazil, but plans are in place for their cultivation to commence in CearĂ¡ by 2027, under the guidance of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa).
Currently, the global pistachio market is dominated by the United States and Iran, with historical records tracing the nut's use back to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
