Valencia's persimmon season will end with a 50% drop in production due to the drought, the DANA, and the difficulties in accessing the crops due to the poor state of the roads. This season in Ribera del Júcar, only 150 million kilos will be harvested out of the 300 million expected.
Producers such as Llorens Capsi, the area manager of the Alcudia CANSO Cooperative, lament that production was lower than expected and assure that the drop is due to "the cotonet, drought, and DANA."
The damage is quite serious and producers' accounts are barely adding up. The price has remained stable, but it's quite tight taking into account that the product's quality is so good that it's moderated losses, he stated. For now, producers expect agility in aid and urgency in reconstructing agricultural infrastructures.
