The fruit sector in Moldova has experienced rapid development in recent years and continues to grow steadily. Producers are increasingly focusing on sustainability, investing in new varieties, advanced equipment, and innovative packaging solutions.
The challenges faced by the sector were addressed during the 10th edition of the International Fruit Business Conference, held on December 5th and 6th in Chisinau, Moldova. More than 350 professionals from the global fruit industry participated in the event including producers, exporters, and industry experts.
Over the past decade, this conference has evolved into a key platform for addressing industry challenges, exploring trends, and fostering partnerships. This year's agenda focused on adapting to climate challenges, maintaining high-quality standards, and expanding Moldova's footprint in global markets. Iurie Fala, CEO of Moldova Fruct, stated:
"This anniversary conference provided valuable insights from international specialists on advancements in fruit production, quality standards, and packaging trends. With 17 of the 43 speakers representing countries such as Spain, France, Italy, and Germany, the exchange of expertise aims to enhance the competitiveness of Moldova's fruit sector."
The conference addressed the sector's current challenges and proposed actionable solutions. Emphasizing innovation, Fala added:
"To stay competitive in international markets, Moldovan producers must adapt to evolving consumer preferences and adopt innovative practices. This event fosters the exchange of ideas that help elevate the quality and appeal of our fruits."
Despite challenging weather conditions, Moldovan fruit producers demonstrated resilience. Key export achievements include:
- Apricots: Record-breaking exports of 13,200 tons, with 56% destined for the EU.
- Plums: EU shipments rose to 79.2%, reinforcing market confidence.
- Apples: Exports are projected to grow by 10%, with significant volumes reaching Saudi Arabia.
- Table Grapes: Exports to the EU hit 31,200 tons, showcasing Moldova's position as a reliable supplier of quality produce.
