Agrovision acquires Chile's ZurGroup to expand its cherry business

"This acquisition is increasing our capacity to offer a constant supply all year round"

The global market for superfruits (those with antioxidant properties) continues to evolve with strategic moves that are strengthening the link between South American producers and high-demand markets such as China. The recent acquisition of ZurGroup, a leading cherry producer in Chile, represents a key development in this dynamic. According to Juan Pablo Spoerer, director of Agrovision, "this initiative responds to the growing need to offer quality agricultural products that meet the expectations of consumers in high-value markets."

"Chile offers ideal conditions for the production of quality cherries," says Spoerer, underlining the country's status as one of the world's leading producers of this fruit. "This acquisition is not only strengthening Agrovision's position in the market but also increasing our capacity to offer a constant supply of fruit all year round, replicating the successful model already implemented with blueberries."

Agrovision plans to introduce proprietary cherry varieties designed to maximize flavor, freshness, and texture. "Our goal is to supply cherries that not only meet but exceed the expectations of the most demanding consumers. Also, the integration of advanced technology and vertically integrated operations will ensure quality standards and efficiency at every stage of production and export," says Spoerer.

The company will implement regenerative agricultural practices in the acquired farms, with a focus on soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity. "We want to set the standard for sustainable agriculture in the region," says Spoerer.

This expansion will also have a significant economic impact. "As a cherry exporting country, Chile will benefit from job creation and the opening of new markets thanks to Agrovision's expertise and infrastructure. Besides, the growing demand for cherries in Asia, especially in China, presents a unique opportunity for our company."

"With this acquisition, we are not only expanding our product portfolio but also following through on our mission to offer nutritious and enjoyable snack options to consumers around the world. This is a category with tremendous growth potential and we are excited to play an active part in its development," says Spoerer.
