"We expect our kiwi season to be finished by January 10th"

It's been a challenging kiwi season this year, says Apostolos Tsinoglou, owner of the Greek fruit exporter Europe Export: "The current kiwi season has been a bit difficult, as demand outside Latin America has not been at a satisfactory level. The demand in European markets isn't really as high as we'd hoped and the demand that is there can't follow the current prices. During the holiday season, the trade was much more settled than it was last year. Prices did not go up at all. And this is still the case right now."

Tsinoglou emphasizes that his company has not been storing its kiwis for later, and as a result, the season is almost over. "When it comes to trade to Latin America, we are preparing the necessary documents and certifications that are needed, much earlier than last year, in order to be ready at the right time. Overall, we expect our season to be finished by January 10th. We chose not to keep our kiwis in the cold storage, because of climate change and the heat of the summer that affected the quality of the kiwis. However, we do see partners that we have come into contact with that still have rather large quantities of kiwis available in cold storage."

"Looking at the new year, we would like to be able to increase our export quantities by 10 to 15 per cent and open even more markets. This is the same goal we set for ourselves every year and we will do what we can to achieve our goals for 2025," Tsinoglou concludes.
