This report provides a trend analysis of the volume and prices of Seasonal Perishable commodities. Volume represents the current week, and prices represent open (spot) market sales by first handlers on products of generally good quality and condition unless otherwise stated and may include promotional allowances or other incentives. The charts provide a graphic representation of the volume and prices of the major commodities this week based on seasonal volume.
Seasonal changes have led to a shift in the commodities of interest for this report. Blueberries replaced asparagus, as the number of growing areas for shipping asparagus declined while demand for blueberries increased. This list will be revisited regularly to maintain an accurate representation of the current trade situation affecting shippers of perishable commodities in North America.
Blueberry
Movement from Peru imports, mostly via boat, entering through Miami, Philadelphia and New York area ports of entry is expected to remain the same. Trading is moderate. Prices of pints are slightly higher and 6-ounce cups are slightly lower. Flats 12 1-pint cups with lids large are mostly 18.00-21.00; Flats 12 6-oz cups with lids large are mostly 8.00-10.00; organic Flats 12 1-pint cups with lids large are 24.00- 26.00.
Avocado
Movement from Mexico crossings through Texas is expected to remain about the same as many packing houses are not operating and harvest schedules are inconsistent due to holiday celebrations. Trading is very active. Prices are higher. Cartons of 2-layer Hass 40s are mostly 75.25-77.25, 48s are mostly 60.25-62.25, 60s are mostly 50.25-52.25, and 70s are mostly 30.25-32.25. Extra services are included. Prices represent very few new sales.
Cucumber
Movement from Mexico crossings through Nogales, Arizona is expected to remain about the same. Supplies of conventional products are very heavy, as many shippers continue to deliver supplies with the price to be established at a later date. Supplies of Pickles are light. Trading is moderate. Prices of the medium are higher, Long Seedless are slightly lower, and others are generally unchanged. 1 1/9-bushel cartons medium are mostly 5.95-6.95, fair quality are 3.95-5.95, ordinary quality are mostly 2.95-3.50; small are mostly 3.95-4.95, large are 5.95-6.95.
Green bell pepper
Movement from Mexico crossings through Nogales, Arizona is expected to increase seasonally, although unseasonable cool temperatures led to lighter-than-expected harvests and tighter supplies. Production is expected to increase by the end of the week Trading is slow. Prices are lower. 1 1/9-bushel cartons jumbo and extralarge are mostly 16.95-18.95, large are mostly 14.95-16.95, medium are mostly 10.95-12.95; fair quality large are mostly 14.95, medium are mostly 10.95-12.95.
