Irish farmers urged to prioritize safety as Storm Éowyn brings strong winds and red alert

As Ireland braces for the arrival of Storm Éowyn, with a Status Red storm alert and a "danger to life" warning issued, the agricultural community is being urged to prioritize safety. IFA President Francie Gorman advises farmers to meticulously inspect their farmyards and implement necessary safety protocols to protect themselves and their livestock. This includes securing buildings, gates, doors, vehicles, and equipment

With the storm expected to significantly impact farm operations over the next 24 to 48 hours, Gorman emphasizes the importance of personal safety, as well as the safety of family and neighbors. Teresa Roche, IFA National Farm Family & Social Affairs Chair, reinforces this message, urging farmers to prioritize their safety over livestock care during the storm, especially given Met Éireann's forecast of wind gusts up to 140kmph, posing an "extreme risk to life".

Roche also highlights the need for vigilance among farmers near coastal areas and encourages the agricultural community to support isolated neighbors during this period. The collective effort to mitigate risks and ensure safety is paramount as the country prepares for the severe weather conditions brought by Storm Éowyn.
