Spark Radar has been working hard to further develop its products. The company, known for its plant virus test kits, following feedback from the field, has improved the test kits that allow growers to test both suspect plants quickly and larger volumes of plants pre-symptomatically.
Both a Radar Quick Scan and a Radar High Volume test are available for growers. Both tests work for ToBRFV, Clavibacter, and cucumber fur virus (CGMMV).
When using the Quick Scan, when a suspicious plant is found, the grower takes a small piece of leaf material and the Radar Quick Scan user transfers the material directly to the test solution. Within 30 minutes, the user gets results and it is clear whether the virus in question is present in the plant.
There is also the pre-symptomatic Radar High Volume test. That test kit is good for screening up to 100 plants at a time for viruses. Growers do this, for example, when plant material arrives.
Improvements
From now on, the test kits come in one user-friendly package. This allows the grower to take the test with him to the room where the tests will be performed. As the product is delivered freeze-dried, there is no restriction for transport.
The test has a shelf life of 3 months. The product should be stored in the refrigerator. Since the test has also become more compact, the transport costs have also become even lower, shares the Spark Radar team for which Menno Boot is the man who can be found a lot in the field, and also at trade fairs.
Spark Rader was founded by Rogier van der Voort and Bas Rutjens. At Spark Radar, they see that more and more users also include the use of test kits in their hygiene protocol.
