Colombia can send avocados for U.S. Super Bowl, diplomatic crisis was resolved

Last Sunday's diplomatic crisis between Colombia and the United States has not affected the supply of Colombian avocados for the Super Bowl, scheduled for February 9, a great opportunity for exporters to balance the year's accounts.

Colombian Hass avocado producers and exporters have agreed to ship 6,500 tons of avocados for this sporting event. The American football-loving public demands this product in large quantities to prepare the popular guacamole, a must-have on match day.

"We have high hopes that those 6,500 tons will delight the people attending the Super Bowl and can reach the US for the benefit of the more than 61,000 jobs that this industry generates in Colombia," stated Katheryn Mejía, president of Corpohass.

The main market is in Philadelphia, even though the Super Bowl will be held in New Orleans. "Fortunately, one of this year's finalists is the Philadelphia team so we hope consumption there will be significant that weekend and the week before the game," she added.

"There was panic because some US importers expressed concern and interest in stopping shipments for the Super Bowl. Fortunately, the diplomatic impasse was surpassed so the 6,500 tons, worth about 10 million dollars, can arrive in the US safely."
